Anders and Andrew met while attending the Jacobs School of Music back in 2001. Sharing a commonality of being from Hong Kong, they quickly turned friends and are now colleagues in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Currently, Anders serves as the second associate concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and Andrew serves as principal viola of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
Andrew credits the quality of the Jacob’s School faculty with having taught him more about different kinds of sounds and phrasing, previously unknown to him. Because of this education, he was able to reach new heights in technique and comprehension. Anders attributes success he’s seen to the doors opened for him while attending the Jacob’s School. He was inspired by IU’s musical environment so much so that he decided to stay and pursue a Master’s degree.
Gladys Yuen received her BA in Journalism from The Media School in 2016 and currently lives and works in Hong Kong. In their interview with Gladys, Anders and Andrew share more about how their Indiana University experience influences and inspires their musical performances still today and how they believe building the next generation’s love towards music is most important.
