Alumni Spotlight: Haroon Anwar

After graduating high school in Northern Indiana, Haroon Anwar, BS ‘06, J.D ‘09, MS ‘10, was determined to attend school farther away from home to be on his own. Haroon claims it  was a no-brainer when choosing to attend Indiana University Bloomington for the beautiful campus, vast opportunities, and great academics while still paying in-state tuition. Attending such a large school brought Haroon out of his shell as he got involved with his academics, made new friends, attended sporting events, and participated in different opportunities on campus. Haroon did undergrad at the Kelley School of Business and then attended law school at the Maurer School of Law. He then took an opportunity to receive his master’s in accounting from Kelley in 2010.

After practicing law in Indiana for ten years after his time at IU, Haroon moved to DC to become a government lawyer in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. Being in D.C. connected Haroon to the board of IUAA. His ties to IU have only grown stronger since he graduated. He now serves as the president of the IUAA Washington D.C. Chapter, and as chair of the advocacy committee of IUAA’s Asian Pacific Islander Alumni Association. “Being involved in the alumni association has allowed me to maintain my connection to IU and Indiana, and it has allowed me to meet lots and lots of alumni in the area. It’s been a great way to make friends and network with people, and it expanded the opportunities of things I get involved with as well,” said Haroon.

In his interview with IUAA Student Fellow Marley Anderson, Haroon explains how his IU education and involvement with IUAA brought him to his current position as a practicing  lawyer and his service to IUAA.
