Happy 2018, IU alumni leaders! Your IUAA family is excited to work with you on a host of important and impactful initiatives – the Chartered Communities Program.
What is the Chartered Communities Program?
The IUAA Chartered Communities Program is a framework of operational standards and programs designed to support strong, vital alumni communities and create the best possible member experience. The program consists of three elements: one set of charter requirements and two sets of campaigns.
Chartered Requirement Training
Charter requirements serve alumni and IU by assuring that IUAA is handling their data, contributions, and their identities responsibly. This is a series of brief but important online trainings that every chartered alumni community volunteer needs to complete this year.
Core Campaigns
Three of the four Core Campaigns are ready for you to activate: Alumni Scholarships, “Welcome To” programs, and IU Day. The IUAA offers these campaigns which all chartered alumni communities must participate in, to serve alumni and IU by ensuring a consistent IU -branded experience, no matter where you live or how you identify with IU. We ask you to activate these campaigns so we know who is participating and track your successes. Learn more or activate your campaign.
IU Day
One date that I hope is circled on your cream and crimson calendar is IU Day, Wednesday, April 18! From 12AM to 11:59PM, it will be all IU, all the time — it’s a Hoosier holiday! Your IUAA liaison will be talking to you about IU Day specifics and even a few improvements to this core campaign.
Areas that are new or improved:
- We are living the IUAA value of inclusion by expanded the reporting window for in-person events. Now, any program or event from April 1-April 18 can be an IU Day program. It DOES NOT have to be during the 24 hours of IU Day.
- You will need to activate your IU Day account. If you are participating in a Fundly Crowdfunding campaign, the form must be completed by Feb. 22. This is a hard deadline – we cannot allow anyone to sign up after this time. There is suggested language for you to use so you don’t feel obligated to pen your own. Additionally, please spend some time locating good photos for us to use on your page. It makes your online presence so much more personal when we can use images from your Alumni Community.
- Your group does not have to host an IU Day Fundly campaign, but we do ask that you promote an IU Day in-person event or participate virtually. Our goal is to engage with our alumni and show the impact Indiana University has made on our lives.
- If you are having an in-person event, you need to let us know by April 4 if you want swag mailed to you. Events registered after April 4 cannot be guaranteed swag.
Swag? Did someone say IU Day swag? Yes, all registered IU Day events will be sent outstanding IU Day goodies! This will be a care package similar to last year’s which can be used as a door prize or as décor for the event. You will also receive virtual assets such as graphics, social media posts, and sample email language.
You will find out more about potential collaboration opportunities around IU Day in the coming weeks. Why not partner with another alumni group to create something even more meaningful?
Need an idea for what to do for IU Day? Want it to be as easy as possible? Do you a servant’s heart that bleeds cream and crimson? Reach out to a local non-profit to see if there is an opportunity to participate in a community service project in your town. What we are most interesting in showcasing is impact and engagement. What impact does your group have either at IU or in your community? How are you engaging your alumni?
