Thanksgiving brings a nostalgia I just can’t describe, especially since I have been characterized as an intuitive person without a memory for facts and figures. I’m the type that cannot recall what is said at the staff meeting, but rather, what is not said. Why I’m charged with taking minutes for our governing board is beyond me.
What I do recall easily, however, is the feeling I get during this time of year as I reflect on my loving family, friends and coworkers, and the volunteers with whom I work five (or sometimes eight!) days a week. When my feelings about my family intersect with pride in IU, it’s an emotional wellspring.
We’ve highlighted a number of outstanding volunteer leaders on this blog. Today’s is Kristina Hardy, a life member active in the Colorado Chapter where she has slowly become more involved in the leadership of the service activities for that community. Kristina earned her degree at IU Bloomington in elementary education and currently works as a teacher in Littleton. When she first got involved with IUAA, she found the Habitat for Humanity and World Mission events were right up her alley. When asked about a specific achievement in her work with the alumni board that makes her most proud, she said it’s being chair of Hoosier Halloween. “Hoosier Halloween, which is a Halloween party at the Children’s Hospital… I have focused my time dedicating to my fellow alumni and the children and families needing some smiles and love,” says Kristina.
I’m really thankful for Kristina and for all the Kristinas in the IU Alumni Universe – not just for representing IU so well at these and many more great programs, but also for making a difference every day.
Happy Thanksgiving!
