Tell me how you first got involved in working with IUAA. As a student at IU, I was active in the Student Alumni Council (now the Student Alumni Association), eventually becoming its president. During that time, I helped host alumni events, made students aware of all that IUAA had to offer, and participated in university ceremonies. The entire experience was incredible and made me realize that I could maintain my relationship with IU long after I moved away. Ever since that time, I have taken every opportunity to support my university.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering with the alumni association? Throughout my association with IUAA, I have met amazing alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their professions, communities, and their university. Through the welcoming events sponsored by IUAA, I have learned so much about the people, goals, opportunities, research, buildings, and archives of IU. It has been an honor to participate and share ideas. After all of these years, each trip to Bloomington affords me a new chance to learn and make new friendships. I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer at IU Northwest as well. I can’t stop myself from sharing my ever-growing passion for IU!
What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering? Volunteering will give back to you as you do things for others. Serving alongside many generations of devoted alumni creates new friendships and connections. Supporting future students while learning about the ever-changing opportunities at IU could not be more rewarding!
Do you have a specific contribution or achievement in your work with your alumni board of which you are most proud? The members of the Lakeshore Chapter have developed and supported scholarships since 2006. This caring group of alumni work to support the next generation in their quest to attend an IU campus and further their education. I hope that these students follow their example and give back. I am proud to be a part of Lakeshore Chapter of IUAA!
