Athletics, Politics, and Religion

IU athletics is prominent in the Winter 2016 Indiana University Alumni Magazine, but there is plenty more to enjoy and celebrate. Two other topics feature those things you are not supposed to discuss at family gatherings — politics and religion.

Our cover story highlights the IU Olympians, led by swimmer Lilly King’s two gold medals. The other athletics story is a photo tour of the newly renovated Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, which opened in time for the basketball season. The refreshed look to the old arena is spectacular.

In politics, IU graduate Mike Pence, Indiana’s governor the last four years, ascends to the vice presidency of the United States. IU political scientists offer some insight into what the future holds for the McKinney School of Law graduate.

Finally, we feature a former music student who left to pursue the seminary. Fr. Cassian Folsom heads a monastery in Italy that produces chart-topping music, operates a brewery, and has suffered devastation from a series of earthquakes in central Italy.

In addition to the feature stories, the magazine highlights original work by an IU graduate, letters to the editor, renovation of the university calliope, profiles of successful alumni, and advice to advance your career and professional development.
