Food and Alcohol Policy for Staff & Volunteers

We recently updated our Food and Alcohol Policy. This policy establishes rules around food and alcohol served at events as well as staff and volunteer conduct while consuming alcohol at events. Below is an explanation of the key changes:

    • Consistency of Insurance Certificate Requirements. IUAA will now require a certificate of insurance for any vendor we are contracting to provide food or alcohol (naming IUAA and IU as additional insured). In the past, we have only required it for events in the DeVault Alumni Center and were inconsistent on getting them for other events. If you plan events for IUAA and your event requires a contract, it is large enough to get a certificate of insurance.
    • Staff and Volunteer Conduct. While we don’t monitor alcohol consumption, we do want to make sure our staff and volunteers drink responsibly and continue to behave in a manner consistent with the IUAA values.

Your compliance with this policy helps protect the IUAA, staff, and volunteers from unnecessary liability. Reach out to me by email at sapike@iu.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for doing your part.
