Celebrating Nancy Pearson, BA’85

Nancy Pearson demonstrates long-standing volunteer leadership and a deep commitment to Indiana University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Business Administration from IU Bloomington in 1985. Though her career has taken her across borders, her Hoosier heart remains firmly planted in IU’s campus.

Currently, Nancy serves as Vice President of the Mexico Alumni Chapter, a role she approaches with both passion and creativity. In addition to her work with the alumni chapter, she collaborates closely with the IU Mexico Gateway, an initiative aimed at expanding IU’s global impact. Whether she’s organizing alumni events in Mexico City or hosting virtual reunions to connect alumni, Nancy is always brainstorming new ways to broaden IU’s international reach. Beyond social gatherings, she also mentors students and young alumni, sharing insights from her own career and inspiring others to give back.

Nancy credits her time at IU for shaping her perspective on the importance of service and connection. As a student, she immersed herself in language studies, campus organizations, and leadership roles, all of which laid the groundwork for her lifelong dedication to giving back. “The experiences I had at IU helped me see how much we can achieve when we come together. Volunteering is my way of showing gratitude and making sure that others get the same opportunities I did.”

As an alumni leader, she has dedicated many hours to fostering connections between alumni and the university. Most recently, her efforts were recognized with the IUAA Volunteer Leadership Award for 2024. In her remarks, she mentioned 3 C’s that came to mind as she received the award. “The first is collaboration because you never do it by yourself. Secondly, circularity. It’s amazing to come full circle after 40 years, having been VP of the Student Alumni Council, leading campus tours, and working with Red Carpet Days, which led to my role in the Admissions office. Now, it’s an honor to give back to the university that gave me so much. The third is congratulations. I think it’s important for these kinds of awards to recognize alumni. It’s very inspiring, you know, it inspires you to do more and hopefully inspires others. I think it’s a fantastic thing that the Alumni Association is doing.”

Her advice for current students and fellow alumni? “Stay involved. Your connection to IU doesn’t end when you graduate—it evolves. Whether it’s attending events, mentoring, or supporting a cause, every bit counts.”

Nancy Pearson’s story is a brilliant example of how IU alumni make a difference worldwide. Her leadership, generosity, and global connections are inspiring, proving that no matter where life takes you, the spirit of Indiana University is always worth celebrating.
