Spotlight: Jimmy Grimes, BA‘06

Jimmy Grimes is an IUAA Volunteer Leader based out of San Diego, CA. I interviewed Jimmy recently and am excited to share a spotlight and his great work as an Alumni Volunteer.

Keeping up with our incredible alumni body would be impossible without our alumni leaders and I am thrilled to highlight one of our most valued, Jimmy Grimes.

Jimmy is the kind of guy who loves to show up and get connected! He is a fearless networking extraordinaire who is always in a good mood and has something positive to say. Jimmy got involved through his connection with the University of Michigan (UM) where he attended graduate school. He began by serving on a UM Alumni Board and it turned out several members of the board were also IU graduates. They assembled one day and decided to partner up to help grow the IU community in San Diego.

When I asked Jimmy what he would tell someone who is thinking about volunteering, his response was simple, “Just Show Up!” He shared there are a million different things alumni can do to help and get involved.

Jimmy’s proudest contribution so far was organizing a speaker series event with former IU head football coach and NFL coach Cam Cameron where Cam provided an insider’s perspective on coaching in the college and pro ranks. The event was a success and generated the best turnout they’ve had for any event during his time with the Chapter. This event demonstrates Jimmy and the Chapter’s commitment to providing unique programming that seeks to provide IU activities but with a local San Diego flavor.

Our purpose at the IU Alumni Association is to bring all alumni together to build a powerful global network of alumni who are committed to one another and our alma mater. Jimmy, we look forward to learning, growing, and making a difference with you. Thank You!
