Spotlight: Scott Bowerman of Metro New York Chapter

This week, we are excited to highlight another spectacular chapter volunteer. Scott Bowerman has been doing great work with the Metro New York chapter and providing opportunities to future Hoosiers through his work with scholarships. Thank you, Scott for all your hard work!

Name: Scott Bowerman
Degree and Graduation Year from IU: Finance 2014
Chapter Region: IUAA Metro New York Chapter
Role/Title on Board: Director of Scholarship

Tell me how you first got involved in working with IUAA.

I met the board president, Alex Trotta, during an Indiana basketball game watch. I was looking for volunteer opportunities at the time, and he mentioned that he needed some help getting the Metro NY Scholarship up and running.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering with the alumni association?

I’m excited that we’re creating a community of Hoosiers in New York, and through scholarship helping local kids have the same great experiences I had while in Bloomington.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?

The chapter structure provides a great opportunity to give something unique to your local community and further ingrain yourself in your city.

Do you have a specific contribution or achievement in your work with your alumni board of which you are most proud?

In August of 2017, our board launched an initiative to raise $25,000 over the course of two years to support the Metro NY Scholarship. This initiative is the most aggressive scholarship fundraising by this chapter, and it requires coordination between the entire board, IUAA, and IU Foundation team members. So far, we have raised around a third of the goal, and we’re very excited to keep pushing towards and beyond our goal.
