The Johnson County Chapter of the IU Alumni Association takes pride in connecting IU alumni, family and friends in Johnson County. They partnered with the IUAA Career & Professional Development (CPD) team to produce a career focused roundtable event with themes and topics their members identified through a pre-event survey. With a keen focus on member interests, the IUAA Career and Professional Development team designed and presented: Take Control of Your Career Destiny, on August 25th to a sold out crowd.
“Relevant information I can readily put into actionable use…,” was one of several positive comments received among the feedback for the Johnson County Chapter career event. The CPD team facilitated lively and interactive round-table discussions with approximately 40 participants on member-selected topics including leadership and salary negotiation, work-life integration, creating a personal brand, and reinventing your career. Every participant was able to experience each topic facilitated by IUAA career coaches: Caroline Dowd-Higgins, Erin Erwin, Emili Sperling and Erin Bruce in a round robin rotation throughout the evening. Lisa Koontz served as emcee and helped participants navigate the different tables for each topic.
During the event, participants engaged in thought-provoking conversations and activities with fellow alumni, and walked away with actionable strategies to impact their careers. Upon collecting feedback on the event from the participants, one attendee commented: “I enjoyed the round table scenario. It provided a more personalized experience with a small group of people who could also provide their experience and knowledge… All of]the coaches provided valuable information that I plan to implement. It provided me with an in-depth way to look at my brand, marketing my skills, how to create balance in my life and ask for what I need…”
The CPD team made great connections with many newly engaged alumni, and looks forward to more opportunities to provide career coaching and professional development resources in Johnson County and beyond.
Kudos to Johnson County Chapter’s Leadership Team: Teresa Wessel, John Martin and Peggy Thompson-Rutledge, for their partnership in designing and executing such a great event. They secured Indiana University Credit Union as a sponsor to offset the cost of the event, which provided branding and exposure to a statewide business entity.
