We need you to give advice and get advice

A mentor is someone who teaches or gives help and advice. At one point in our lives we have either been one or we have had one. Take a moment to pause and think about that time or person right now. What types of words describe your experience?

What comes to mind for me is guidance, encouragement, support, direction, and honesty. I am sure you thought of other words to positively describe your unique interaction.

The IUAA is excited that IU alumni are helping one another all around the world through our online mentoring tool, IUVisors. The platform offers advice, coaching, and preparation from Indiana University alumni who’ve actually worked in your field of interest. There are currently over 800 alumni ready and willing to offer personal career coaching facilitated through the system. Sign up today to give advice or get advice through career conversations, resume critiques and mock interviews all by phone. The environment is safe, confidential, and not restricted by location. There is not a long term commitment and you can meet with many different IUVisors to gain knowledge regarding different professional backgrounds.

Those searching for a job are not the only ones who need mentors. According to Elle (Noelle) Roth, in her article published by themuse, here are The 3 Career Mentors Everyone Should Have:

  1. Mentor #1: You in One Year
Think about your short-term career goals: Where do you want to be at this time next year?
  2. Mentor #2: Your Five-Year Guide
While a one-year mentor is great for the day-to-day stuff, it’s also good to have a “where I want to be in five years” mentor.
  3. Mentor #3: Your Career Planner
Lastly, you should have a “what do I want to do with my career” advisor.
