Today is the second installment in a series of scholarship related posts in the month of October from Anne Bono, Director of Business Development & Scholarships at the Alumni Association.
All IUAA scholarship accounts are housed at the IU Foundation and have a gift agreement. A gift agreement is a legal document establishing the scholarship account and stating the donor intent – how the funds will be used. The donor intent for most of our scholarships are very broad and usually state the funds are for an undergraduate or graduate student attending Indiana University. The benefit of having a broad donor intent means we do not risk having zero students eligible to receive the scholarship.
Since the intents are so broad, it is up to the chapter and affiliate boards to determine specific criteria for the selection committee to use when choosing recipients. Read the criteria and complete form. The form collects the number of scholarships being awarded, the amount, GPA range, financial need, campus, and class standing. The form also allows you to enter any other specific criteria such as extra-curricular activities, work history, or other qualities that your board believes the recipient should hold.
The selection committee will use this information to narrow down the pool of students and find a recipient reflecting your criteria. Before determining what to include on the criteria form, I recommend watching the tutorial I gave on the application so you can see what information is captured from the student.
The criteria form is due by March 1, 2016.
If you have questions about the form or your gift agreement, please contact your liaison.
Go IU!
