“Dr. Burt’s research has pushed the education field by introducing a new voice to student identity research by focusing attention on engineering identity development for Black males. He did so by assembling the largest aggregation of qualitative data about Black men in engineering graduate programs that has resulted in findings that inform best practices in colleges of engineering and higher retention rates… Dr. Burt has established an exemplary record upon which he and, by extension, the Indiana University community can and should be proud. Burt’s exemplary body of scholarship and enactment of professional practice and integrity are representative of the group of scholars who have been selected for this award in the past.” – Shontrai Irving, BA’97, MA’03, JD’03
Pamela Braboy Jackson, MA’89, PHD’93

“As a scholar, Dr. Jackson’s focus on the nexus of social psychology, mental health, family, and social stratification makes her one of the top experts in the country, specifically on issues of minority mental health and family. She has published numerous articles that challenge and expand our understanding of health and other racial disparities among the Black middle class. Her recent book, How Families Matter: Simply Complicated Intersections of Race, Gender, and Work, was awarded the Scholarly Achievement Award by North Central Sociological Association.” – Muna Adem, MA’17, MS’19

“Doneisha Posey is an adjunct professor at IU McKinney School of Law where she teaches racial and social justice courses like “Housing Discrimination and Segregation” and “Race and the Law.” Her contributions to the legal profession by teaching the next generation of lawyers about their responsibilities to do good by the most marginalized and vulnerable populations not only benefits the law school but our society as a whole.” – Lesley Gordon, BA’10
Maurice Scott, JD’12

“Before founding Scott Legal & Consulting LLC, Mr. Scott was an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Indianapolis, where he advised and represented multiple government agencies in land use disputes, quiet title actions, and mortgage foreclosures. Maurice’s knowledge of quiet title actions earned him the reputation of the go-to person on handling those matters in central Indiana. Mr. Scott’s experience with the City of Indianapolis taught him how to resolve issues effectively, efficiently, and with minimal cost. Mr. Scott is active in his local community. He is a member of the Marion County Bar Association, Board Member of the International Marketplace Coalition, and teaches civics to inner city elementary and middle school students.” – Sherie Scott
Neal-Marshall Alumni Club Alumni Achievement Award is designed to recognize lifetime accomplishments of Indiana University alumni for their body of work as professionals. The criteria is as follows:
- A graduate of Indiana University – any campus, school, or degree level
- Generally, over 40 years of age
- No less than five years of accomplishments in an established career area
- Must have a history of community service or philanthropic practices
- Must exemplify moral character that reflects proudly on the university and the community
- Must have a track record of outreach to IU students, aspiring professionals, or community youth
Neal-Marshall Alumni Club Rising Star Award recognizes accomplishments of emerging professionals and their growing body of accomplishments. The criteria is as follows:
- A graduate of Indiana University – any campus, school, or degree level
- Generally, less than or equal to 40 years of age
- No less than three years of accomplishments in an established career area
- Must exemplify moral character that reflects proudly on the university and the community
