Tell Us Your Story: What are your perfect things about IU?

Nobody or nothing is perfect, but a good many of us view Indiana University, or aspects of it, as perfect. What makes it so? Why are we so attached to this place?

For me, IU is perfect because it’s home. It’s the place in my life where I feel the most comfortable. Many things go into that. My roommate in the dorm is now a lifelong friend. I still see and am friendly with a few professors from my 1970s IU experience. And I still regularly go to the HPER (formally, the Wildermuth Intermural Center, but it will always be HPER to me). It’s this attachment that made me want to work for IU, and I’ve been here for 16 years now.

For you, IU may be perfect because of a single event, place, or person. Athletics championships, iconic musical or theater performances, meeting a spouse, lounging in the Indiana Memorial Union, meeting a new friend, long hours as a medical student in Indianapolis — so many things could trigger the emotional attachment we have to our alma mater.

So, tell us your story. What are your perfect things about IU? What inspires you to nominate a professor, a place, a season, a feeling you have about your time on any of the campuses or extensions of IU? Send your response to iueditor@indiana.edu. We’ll publish a select number of these in our next issue of the Indiana University Alumni Magazine.
