As an international student and professional, Rudrani Angira, MS ’17, holds the Asian Pacific Islander Community close to her heart. She came to IU from Delhi, India. Rudrani knew she wanted to further her studies in computer science, and she was impressed with the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering’s reputation and the research completed by the school’s faculty.
She is currently the Treasurer of the Asian Pacific Islander Alumni Association, and she is thankful that affinity groups exist. “I just strongly believe that affinity groups in any college or work environment are a must because they make a cultural community feel valued, empowered, and give them a collective voice for their community,” said Rudrani. She was wanting to give back to a community that provided her with love and support during her time as a student. In her role on the board of APIAA, Rudrani is working to adapt scholarship criteria, fundraise to create more scholarships, and host discussions with the chapter’s scholarship recipients.
In her interview with IUAA Student Fellow Kaitlin Scott, Rudrani explains how her IU degree and experiences led to her career as a Software Engineer at Microsoft.
